On February 1, 2024, during a business trip to Vietnam, Yamato Transport, a leading logistics service provider in Japan, visited Ship60 to discuss potential development opportunities in the Vietnamese logistics market. The visit was facilitated by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), an organization affiliated with Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
Yamato Transport was represented by Mr. Masaomi Seki, Senior Manager, and Ms. Pham Thi Hue, Specialist, Global Business Strategy Department. JETRO was represented by Ms. Kihara Kasumi, Investment Advisor, and Ms. Phan Quynh Uyen, Assistant Project Manager. In a friendly and open atmosphere, both parties exchanged views on the logistics and fulfillment markets in Vietnam and Japan, and explored opportunities for collaboration. Both sides highly valued the potential of the Vietnamese logistics market, not only in the region but also globally. Notably, Japan is currently Vietnam’s fourth largest trading partner and its third largest export and import partner. Bilateral trade turnover in 2022 reached nearly 50 billion USD. In the first 10 months of 2023, bilateral trade turnover is estimated to reach 36.9 billion USD, of which Vietnam exported 19.2 billion USD to Japan and imported 17.7 billion USD from Japan. In November 2023, Vietnam and Japan upgraded their relationship to a “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World.”
With an extensive delivery network covering 43.6% of Japan’s market share, YAMATO delivers nearly 1.8 billion packages annually and is continuously expanding into international markets, including Vietnam. During the meeting, both parties shared various issues to jointly explore opportunities for cooperation in the near future.
